Hands
Because im creating a tattoo chair, i had to come up with a design for my audience to sit in.I suddenly thought about tattoos and places on the body where they can be placed, and decided i would create a hand chair, a little like the ball and egg chairs, but it would be in the for of a hand and supported by a steel poll where it would then have a base of mini hands.
I had to experiment to see what worked best, especially as i was drawing over the time.
these are my hands…..
This was made from using a plastic glove that the doctors and nurses use and fill it with plaster of paris. It was so much fun, but very messy and got covered in the stuff.however after it had set and i had to pull the gloves off they needed up breaking – some of the fingers fell off…but they are fixable so and ive also learnt that i dont maybe need to put them in such weird positions.. otherwise the most complicated they are the less likely im going to get them out in one piece.
These are my examples of my moulding of my hand. I did have to get help as i couldnt add to my hand without moving the position of it so had one of our technicians helps me – Helen. although it looks quite nice, i was more happy to use the plaster of paris ones, as they looked and felt more realistic, and were going to be easier and quicker to make as well as the fact that they were easy to draw onto afterwards as you can see below…..
As you can see i have drawn onto this hand. I wanted to test how well it worked on the plaster or paris and i was very surprised to see it worked a treat!…. Compared to the fabric and sewing i throughly enjoyed this technique and will make my outcome from it. My sewing samples were rubbish and because i dont have a lot of time or patience, i thought if i drew onto the chair it would be easier that way plus the fact that i will have very intricate pieces to draw on and so with sewing it might not look as good.
This was just a tester of a celo-tape hand. It was so hard to make but it was quite fun, even though it was a sticky process. Even though i thought it looked quiet affective it did take a long time to create as well as it being celo-tape i wouldnt be able to use normal pen / felt tips on there so i had to use cd pens which cost alot and run out quicker. Over all although happy with the design and style i would prefere to make my hand sout of plaster or paris.
